Penang, 11 September 2025 – In celebration of a remarkable 140 years of timeless elegance,
heritage, and hospitality, the Eastern & Oriental Hotel (E&O) invites guests to an exciting evening
at its 140th Anniversary Gala Ball happening on 11 October 2025 in the hotel’s iconic Grand
Ballroom.

Priced at RM488 nett per person, this black-tie formal affair promises to be a night steeped in
history and celebration, a fitting tribute to one of the hotel’s visionary founding brothers, Arshak
Sarkies, renowned for his love of lively soirées.

True to his spirit, the E&O was once the stage for countless prestigious balls and social
gatherings, with music, fine dining, and dancing lighting up the hotel nearly every day of the week.

Alongside his equally enterprising siblings Martin, Tigran and Aviet, the illustrious Sarkies brothers
left an indelible mark on Southeast Asia’s luxury hospitality scene, with the E&O representing the
brothers’ pioneering debut in 1885.

The evening’s festivities will transport guests to a bygone era, featuring live performances by the
Totally Telemann Quartet, Musica Sinfonietta, and the Big Band of Penang.

Guests will also enjoy a five-course dinner menu carefully put together for the event, featuring
scallops, lobsters, Angus beef, cod, and an array of vegetarian delights, complemented by fine
wines and champagne.

To end the evening, fireworks display will light up the Penang sky, marking the hotel’s legacy that
began in 1885 and continues until today.
