E&O Hotel Wins Big At Battle Of The Chefs

Penang, 12 October 2018 – The Eastern & Oriental (E&O) Hotel’s team of elite chefs emerged victorious at the recent Battle of the Chefs 2018 as they walked home with a total of 12 medals and four diplomas.
Eighteen chefs represented E&O to take part in 12 out of the 65 categories and each of them managed to clinch an award, resulting in a total of three gold medals, six silver medals, five bronze medals and four diplomas.
T. Darmendran, S. Tamilarsu and teammate Muhammad Syazwan Abu Suffian obtained over 90 points, snagging a gold medal each in the Plated Appetizers category and the Traditional Malay Cuisine Team of Two Chefs category.
E&O Berhad group hospitality and lifestyle director Michael Saxon said it was an amazing feat and he was very proud of the team and their hardwork.
“Their achievement well reflects our hotel’s commitment in bringing the highest quality of culinary experience to the guests,” he said.
The 17th edition showdown from Oct 5 to Oct 7 saw 1500 local and international chefs battling it out at the Penang SPICE Convention Centre.
The biennial event was first carried out in July 1988 and has now reached a recognised World Association of Chefs Continental status.
Participants were required to acquire at least 90 points and above for a gold medal, 80 and above for silver, 70 and above for bronze and 60 and above for a diploma.
