Penang, 1 December 2017 – Hotel guests may be miles away from home but they could still feel the warmth and spirit of Christmas time at Eastern & Oriental (E&O) Hotel here.

 Setting the mood for the Yuletide season, the hotel management threw an early bash with a Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, a tradition of the heritage hotel held for the 14th year running.

 The centre of attraction at this event, standing resplendent beneath the Echo Dome of the hotel lobby, is a six-metre tall Christmas tree bedecked with shiny colourful baubles, ornaments, tinsel and fairy lights.

 The hotel staff had spent 18 hours decorating this lofty masterpiece.

 E&O group hospitality and lifestyle director Michael Saxon said the annual celebration was something the staff members and invited guests looked forward to each year.

 “What makes it even more meaningful is that the ceremony serves as a melting pot for people of diversified backgrounds to meet and share the joy of Christmas,” said Saxon.

 Corporate clients, expatriates and government delegates were among the invited guests who were in a jolly, festive mood as they exchanged pleasantries over a free flow of cocktails and canapes.   

 Adding to the merriment of the evening were the melodious carolling by The Messengers choir while Santa and Santarina had the children all excited with the handout of goodies and candies.
